Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal aired July 5th 2014 at 6AM EST on Hulu, Cruncyroll, Viz, NicoNico, and a few other streaming sites. It's produced by Toei Animation, directed by Munehisa Sakai, and this time around Naoko Takeuchi has been a huge part of this animation. It's based more closely to the shojo manga Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon that began it's first run in 1991. The anime series ran along side the manga from '92 till '97,  but if you've watched the 90's anime, there are many filler episodes and the story is a little off.

Sailor Moon Crystal focuses on Usagi Tsukino, like the manga and 90's anime, who is found by a cat named Luna. Usagi, the crybaby, finds out she is a soldier named Sailor Moon who must find her fellow Sailor Guardians, then find and protect the Legendary Silver Crystal and their princess.

This series is planned for 26 episodes, each episode being released on the first and third Saturday of the month. June 30th, the first episode had an advanced screening to celebrate Usagi's birthday and was soon leaked to YouTube. On October 15, 2014, a limited edition Blu-ray box set will be released in Japan with a Blu-ray and DVD compilation to be released the following months.

Good news for North America: Viz Media licensed Crystal for an English-language release back in May of 2014, so we will get to see this series dubbed. And hopefully dubbed properly. The 90's anime had so many voice changes and dialog changes that it made the story... to be honest umbareable. No wonder why they're redubbing it and leaving it uncut this time!

The music for Sailor Moon Crystal is composed by Yasuharu Takanashi and has two pieces both sang by the popular group: Momoiro Clover Z. The opening theme is titled "Moon Pride" and the ending is "Gekko". Unlike the 90's anime, those are the only lyrical songs in the reboot so far. There are classical pieces and midi's, but so far, this is the only thing I'm missing abou the 90's. On the brightside: more merchandise is being released!

About

Sailor Moon Crystal

Back in 2012 it was rumored that Sailor Moon would have a reboot in the summer of 2013. Some fans went estatic, some fans were skeptical. I was that fan who was estatic. Rumors were that it was going to follow the manga more closely than the anime in the 90's and I couldn't have been happier. Then the rumor was pushed to 2014. Sure I was sad, but as the time came close, July was the date and I had my calendar marked!

After watching a quarter of the series so far, I've decided to start a page on Crystal. I've made a site about the manga and the 90's anime, I've made a facebook page and tumblr about everything Sailor Moon has offered (links are below), but now I wanna make a site on just Sailor Moon Crystal. Why? Because I've really begun to like Sailor Moon again. I loved it before, but now I'm in love.

Sailor Moon is not created by me. This is only a fansite. Sailor Moon's characters and story are creations and copyright of Naoko Takeuchi - ©Sailor Moon (1991-2014**)
